About Carly

Carly Hakim Babi was born and raised in Metro Detroit. She graduated with a Bachelor’s in Political Science and Spanish from Wayne State University in 2013. Carly earned her Juris Doctorate and Masters of Business Administration degrees from Detroit Mercy in 2018, where she was the recipient of the George Bodurow Scholarship due to her excellent performance in both law and business school.

For the past 8 years, Carly worked as a law clerk in many areas of law including: foreclosures and debt relief; family law; criminal defense; immigration; and personal injury. Throughout, Carly has also been committed to serving the Hispanic community in Detroit as a legal liaison between other attorneys and their Spanish-speaking clients.
In college, Carly volunteered for various non-profit organizations based in Mexico City, aimed at protecting human, civil, political, economic and social rights of the under-privileged.

While in law school, Carly was a student attorney at the 35th District Court where she represented criminal defendants that could not afford an attorney. As her continued service for the community, on occasion, Carly serves as a public defender in the Shelby District Court.
