In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, LawChamps began hosting monthly virtual Legal Meet-Ups to help people get advice from real lawyers on pressing legal topics. The Meet-Ups are run in a panel format.
LawChamps’ Chief Legal Officer Jennifer McGlone, asks the panelists questions submitted by you, our LawChamps users.

The next legal meet-up will take place on Friday, June 26 at 1pm PT/4 pm ET. Our panel of attorneys will be available to answer questions about rent and eviction problems. You can sign up here or by calling (866)653-3017.

In anticipation of the upcoming  legal meet-up, we asked Jennifer about her advice for landlord-tenant issues, her thoughts on how the pandemic has affected the legal profession, and why she decided to join LawChamps.

Landlord-tenant advice

“My general advice is to talk to an attorney who can understand your situation better and help you chart a course of action.

Make an action plan and then you might or might not end up hiring the attorney to advocate for you.

But regardless of whether you hired the attorney or put that plan in place yourself, you will know it's a solid plan.”

How do you think the pandemic has changed the legal profession?

“I think that attorneys and clients are realizing that they can work together in a really effective way virtually and remotely.

I think that the legal profession as a whole has been slower to adopt technology than other professions and we've been forced into doing so and it's having positive impacts on our ability to run our businesses.”

What made you want to join LawChamps?

“When I was given the opportunity to join a company that was going to come up with a different way of administering legal services and try to make it more affordable and accessible, I already knew that the need was there and I wanted to be a part of the solution.

After 20 years in private practice my career came full circle because I was able to join LawChamps which gives me a way to work on access to justice issues and reform. Both of them are civil and criminal, making the Gideon promise become more real for underserved communities. I really jumped at the chance to join LawChamps.”
